I borrowed this from the library on a whim* and turns out I needed it and even liked it。 I had to create a whole new shelf on Goodreads。。。 Who am I?***also: divine providence** This kind of script is probably exactly what the book is trying to get me to change。

I'm a big fan of Jon Acuff's work, and this latest book definitely didn't disappoint! It's filled with humour and real-life stories, woven with a meditation on how we can be our own worst enemies。 And, ironically for a book about overthinking (!), it got me thinking again about the soundtracks I listen to, and whether they are helping or hindering me。 I haven't nailed the perfect soundtrack yet, but thanks to this book, I'm further down the path than I was before reading it。 I'm a big fan of Jon Acuff's work, and this latest book definitely didn't disappoint! It's filled with humour and real-life stories, woven with a meditation on how we can be our own worst enemies。 And, ironically for a book about overthinking (!), it got me thinking again about the soundtracks I listen to, and whether they are helping or hindering me。 I haven't nailed the perfect soundtrack yet, but thanks to this book, I'm further down the path than I was before reading it。 。。。more

I wanted to like it because the others were great but really can barely finish it。 Trying too hard, sounds so naive and quite sexist at time。 Anyway, it you are discovering Job Acuff maybe don’t start with this one。

The book was “meh”。 Normally I’m a huge fan of Acuff’s books, but this one did not seem new。 I do plan on trying out his affirmation though。

This book is all about giving you the profound and effective way to deal with negative overthinkingIt is good, but not extraordinarily good, some good points coupled with personal stories and motivational stories of other people do help in understanding things better。But again there is not much in the book that kind of make you think like “ vow that is amazing”。No doubt author has put tremendous effort but I am really skeptical of such a high rating in both amazon and goodreads。 Not being judgeme This book is all about giving you the profound and effective way to deal with negative overthinkingIt is good, but not extraordinarily good, some good points coupled with personal stories and motivational stories of other people do help in understanding things better。But again there is not much in the book that kind of make you think like “ vow that is amazing”。No doubt author has put tremendous effort but I am really skeptical of such a high rating in both amazon and goodreads。 Not being judgemental just opinion。 。。。more

Wow! Wow! WOW! Jon Acuff just called out the negative voices (soundtracks) and dialed them down by replacing them with positive voices (soundtracks)! I wish I would have had this information in my teens, if not earlier。 My life might have been much easier because I would have known how to dial the negative down and turn up true positive statements about myself! This should be added to every school's reading list for 6th or 7th grade, again for high school, and college students as well! Everyone Wow! Wow! WOW! Jon is an incredibly gifted speaker and author, but this book is his best yet! Thank you, Jon for blessing the world with this book and for giving me solutions to better my life and the world! This book is amazing。 It teaches you practical but simple solutions to overthinking。 I found that it was extremely helpful and I loved the sprinkles of humor throughout the pages I found myself either grinning or laughing multiple times。 I highly recommend this book if you are an overthinker it will definitely help。

Overthinking can leave you paralysed in your decision making, Jon delves into this problem and finds some interesting research on how you can turn things around。 A very interesting book。

Some how I’ve stumbled on many of these ideas in unrelated ways, so reading this was basically me nodding my head along and yelling “PREACH!” randomly。 This was an awesome collection of life changing ideas—even if you’re a self help junkie like I am, or if you’re super new to affirmations and symbols/vision boards that keep you motivated。 It’s a quick read with tangible lists to apply to your right away。 And lots of humor。 I laughed so many times!

A very enjoyable readingThe insight might seem very obvious, but it’s definitely a very enjoyable ride。 It provides so many useful, and interesting, examples。

Fantastic, practical information for anyone who is trying to replace the negative talk in his/her head (soundtracks) with more positive, encouraging messages。 I listened to the audio book, read by the author。 It was truly like having a personal conversation with him。 And he is funny!!! Cannot recommend this one enough。

Listening to Jon read is such a pleasure。 You can imagine that he is having a personal conversation with you。 So many of his ideas about the "soundtracks" that run around in our heads are experienced by so many every day。 This is an audiobook that I own and will return to frequently when I get stuck in overthinking and need encouragement and ideas to become "unstuck。" After all of the turmoil of 2020, it's easy to allow social media and popular opinion to color our thoughts and ideas。 Listening to Jon read is such a pleasure。 You can imagine that he is having a personal conversation with you。 So many of his ideas about the "soundtracks" that run around in our heads are experienced by so many every day。 This is an audiobook that I own and will return to frequently when I get stuck in overthinking and need encouragement and ideas to become "unstuck。" After all of the turmoil of 2020, it's easy to allow social media and popular opinion to color our thoughts and ideas。 。。。more

One of the best books I have ever read/listened to。 Hilarious and helpful, inspiring and challenging, worth every penny and every minute。 (If you read no further, just go buy the book。) Many who try to help with this topic either tell you to "just stop" (as if we could and just refuse??) or make you feel like a horrible person for this "stupid, self-destructive thing you do" (which really just sends you into further downward spirals of overthinking)。 Jon Acuff isn't like that。 He is humble in sh One of the best books I have ever read/listened to。 Hilarious and helpful, inspiring and challenging, worth every penny and every minute。 (If you read no further, just go buy the book。) Many who try to help with this topic either tell you to "just stop" (as if we could and just refuse??) or make you feel like a horrible person for this "stupid, self-destructive thing you do" (which really just sends you into further downward spirals of overthinking)。 Jon Acuff isn't like that。 He is humble in sharing his own overthinking patterns and it gives you the freedom to admit that overthinking really is stealing time and leaving you with stress instead。 Then he shares how to replace broken soundtracks with new ones。 You can see the difference is made in his life just in the way that he shares his stories and it gives you hope that you too can listen to the new soundtracks。Just listening to Jon read this book has already helped me to not obsess in the 24 hours between a terrifyingly vague "do have a few minutes to chat?" text and the time the person called。 (And of course it was a totally great conversation instead of an awful one。) I haven't even done the hard work of replacing and repeating new soundtracks yet! (Just think how superpowered I will be then。)On the outside, I am an extrovert, typically happy and helpful。 I appear confident and decisive。 But I know that on the inside, I am a very uncomfortable, clenched in the fetal position overthinker who worries about how every thing I do could negatively affect someone else and how that is more important than how it actually affects me。 (I do know how messed up that is, but that's where I have been stuck for a very, very long time。)So instead of the broken soundtrack, "I said the wrong thing and everyone is secretly mad at me" which makes me feel like I need to obsessively go fix everything, I am trying to replace it with, "I didn't hurt anyone on purpose。 They are adults。 If they are mad at me, they will tell me。" (Just one example of how I'm trying to apply this book。)I am not completely cured of my overthinking yet, but Jon and his straightforward book have helped me take a flying leap in the right direction。 Highly recommend to all。 。。。more

Fantastic! My 8 year old was a captive to the audiobook on our road trip, and even she is caught saying, I need to change that Soundtrack, now。 My favorite soundtrack so far is from my youngest daughter’s ninja style tumbling class, “Even Ninja’s make mistakes。”

Jon Acuff has a phenomenal way on pinpointing areas of your life where overthinking can get in the way。 Such a refreshing book that shines a new light on how to break through the cycle of getting stuck in your own thoughts。

Megan Byrd

An actionable book on how to get rid of negative thoughts that keep you stuck and create new ones that will propel you forward toward your goals。 Jon shares the research and strategies that lead to successful goal momentum。 An enjoyable read。

Had I not read so many powerful psychology and self-help books in the past 2-3 years, I'm sure I'd wholeheartedly give this a full 5 stars。 It's very good; I'm just not sure it's as powerful as The Practice: Shipping Creative Work, The War of Art: Winning the Inner Creative Battle, The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results, or even Acuff's own Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done。 But it's a simple premise: use your tendency to overthink and transform it into an Had I not read so many powerful psychology and self-help books in the past 2-3 years, I'm sure I'd wholeheartedly give this a full 5 stars。 It's very good; I'm just not sure it's as powerful as The Practice: Shipping Creative Work, The War of Art: Winning the Inner Creative Battle, The One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results, or even Acuff's own Finish: Give Yourself the Gift of Done。 But it's a simple premise: use your tendency to overthink and transform it into an advantage。 Take the broken soundtracks in your head ("I'm not good enough。" "This is too hard" etc) and rewrite them ("Nobody is good enough when they get started。" "Let's just do this next step" etc)。 Once again, Acuff is entertaining as well as motivational。 。。。more

Maybe Acuff's best book。 As always, he's practical and funny。 But he hits on such a common topic for everyone that it sticks to the ribs in ways some of his other work hasn't。 His advice is good enough to write down; simple enough that you might not have to。 And he's the rare self-help/productivity author who is able to use humor without sounding patronizing or condescending。 Maybe Acuff's best book。 As always, he's practical and funny。 But he hits on such a common topic for everyone that it sticks to the ribs in ways some of his other work hasn't。 His advice is good enough to write down; simple enough that you might not have to。 And he's the rare self-help/productivity author who is able to use humor without sounding patronizing or condescending。 。。。more

I’ll change this rating to a 5 if it actually helps me stop overthinking。 I liked the book but wish it was backed up by more science instead of just one study that had many of Acuff’s fans in it。 I would read the book Mindset by Carol Dweck first because it is more scientific but I love the idea of your thoughts being soundtracks and how to change them into being more positive。 I hope it works!

The premise of the book is about the importance of having positive messages that you can play in your head frequently to offset the negative thoughts you might have about your life or yourself。 I found that the author included a few useful advice, yet much of it was about his own personal successes。 The degree of “humble-bragging” has exponentially increases in his last few books and it detracts from the focus of helping the reader and places too much focus on the author。My main concern about th The premise of the book is about the importance of having positive messages that you can play in your head frequently to offset the negative thoughts you might have about your life or yourself。 I found that the author included a few useful advice, yet much of it was about his own personal successes。 The degree of “humble-bragging” has exponentially increases in his last few books and it detracts from the focus of helping the reader and places too much focus on the author。My main concern about the book is that by repeating positive message about oneself, the author didn’t explore the potential of this also leading to a inflated ego。 Stating “everything is always working out for me” frequently seems like a recipe for being arrogant and insufferable to be around。 Some of my favorite sections were advice he seemed to have collected from raising questions to his followers on social media, which suggests he may be running out of practical ideas beyond the platitudes。A good read, a few good ideas to incorporate in one’s life, but definitely not a book I’m want to re-read。 。。。more

Jon Acuff does it again。 I borrowed this from the library, and it took everything in me not to buy it before I was finished reading (and knew for sure it was worth owning)。 Wouldn’t have mattered。 I bought it once I was done。 This is one of the first books I’ve ever wanted to start rereading immediately。 Do yourself a favor and don’t think twice。 Buy it。 There’s a soundtrack just waiting to bring music to your dreams。
